Enjoy Life: Joga Bonito(Play beautifully)

November 2, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Anybody remember the 2006 World Cup? Ok maybe not but there was a well crafted commericial series called Joga Bonito, which means Play beautifully in Portugese. Why am I posting this? If I can get up on the soap box for a minute…

I, like many suburbanites and even kids in the city played soccer growing up…from about the age of 9 till about 13 or so. I played soccer even before I started playing organized basketball(which is my heart) but just recently last night LOL I played a pick up game of futsal, which is literally like basketbal with a soccer ball and two goals. It’s played on a basketball court with five players. Now I’m still aching from the games I played lol, but I had soooo much fun. The reason I’m posting this video is because I feel soccer can have real traction here in the U.S. but soccer has to move from the ‘white suburban’ sport it currently is to an American sport which includes African-Americans from the inner city. The U.S. could be the new Brazil as far as soccer. The brazillians play soccer like we play basketball and with the flair that we are used to.  I love basketball but as I’ve gotten older things change and futsal/soccer is rapidly gaining a place in heart. So peep the video and Joga Bonito. Oh! the skills in this video are bananas!

ENJOY!

Euro Obama?

October 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

With less than a week till the  most important Election of the 21st century so far. Obama’s presence is alreadly being discussed across the Atlantic Ocean with our European brethren/Sisthren of African descent. Will there be a Presidential candidate that is the equalivent of what Sen. Obama is here in the U.S. The French might be next in line…or are they ready? Peep the article below

Paris – Black Europeans are delighted that Democrat Barack Obama appears poised to make US political history but few dare hope that one of their own will match his achievement any time soon.

For some, Obama’s achievement in becoming the first African-American with a real shot at the White House, has simply underlined how far Europe’s minority populations are from winning a seat at the top tables of power.

“Here the whole system gets in the way. In France, people are much more conservative,” said Haitian-born Massaryk Duclos, whose Paris store sells a range of T-shirts emblazoned with Obama’s image.

Nearby, a dreadlocked friend with an Obama badge pinned to his US-style baseball cap ahead of the November 4, US presidential elections snorted at the very idea of a French black candidate. “It’s not the same culture here,” he laughed. Click here for the Full story
